To kill a motorcyclist

– A mat salleh I’ve spoken to once said that Malaysian drivers drive like they are constantly trying to kill motorcyclist.
– A friend of mine told me he made it a point to drive as close as possible to the car on his side if a motorcycle tries to squeeze between them and overtake him. (Can’t really blame him. A bike once caused an accident where he was comatose for 2 weeks.)
– Another friend of mine is simply blind to motorcycles. Never bothered to notice them at all.
– My mom was making a turn when a bike hit the side of the car behind the doors. She didn’t notice the bike. Nasib baik no injuries.

I’ve been involved in an accident with a motorcycle before. I was going to make an *ahem* illegal *ahem* when I heard a long bang and something flew next to my window. Fortunately, he only had a cut on the arm that needed few stitches.
(Not entirely my fault. I check the side mirror and signalled. That idiot was speeding and he came out of no where. I suspect he was criss-crossing between the lanes.)

Most of us (upper middle class Chinese Malaysians) wouldn’t give a shit about these motorcyclists.
Maybe it’s because we don’t have friends/relatives whose only form of transportation is the motorcycle.
Or maybe we have not been in an accident before.
Or maybe we have not seen our friends got hit by drivers who don’t notice them.

Regardless if the motorcyclist is riding safely or not,
DON’T TRY TO KILL THE MOTORCYCLISTS!

I hate reckless motorcyclist as much as you do. But it’s not our job to teach them a lesson. The point is to AVOID AN ACCIDENT.

Have you thought about this?
The biker is someone’s son/daughter.
The biker is someone’s father.
The biker is someone’s friend.

LESSON FOR ALL: Always… ALWAYS LOOK AT THE SIDE MIRRORS to make sure there are no bikes right next to you before making a turn or stopping at a road side.

LESSON 2: Always use the bloody f*cking ORANGE SIGNAL LIGHT(indicator) before making a turn or changing lanes. So the motorcycles(and cars) can get out of your way.

LESSON 3: Always give the motorcyclist some space. Don’t tailgate them (you might actually succeed in killing him if you do).

Can we have him as our PM instead?

not-so-small talk:
Do you listen to jazz? Lets go to Alexis Bistro one fine evening.

Raja Dr Nazrin
Crown Prince of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah

Can we have him as our PM?

Please… please… please!!

Read this and this to understand why.

Now for some other slightly related juicy stories about other royal families in Malaysia.

This was while working as a in a credit card company last time. One day, our group happen to gossip about royal families. So this colleague shared this story about a friend of hers who was quite beautiful (never seen this girl before, everything is according to my colleague)… and was one if the mistresses of a royalty.

It seem some royal families are big spenders. No work and all play. They would book lavish resorts in exotic islands (e.g. Tioman, Pangkor…) then party day and night. They’d invite pretty girls (lots of them) to wear sexy bikinis to their yatch and have fun. They’d buy expensive gifts for the girls. They’d keep multiple mistresses. They’d probably spend hundreds of thousands in a day. And more hundreds of thousands in a night.

And this is only an example of a bau-bau bacang kerabat diraja. Imagine 20, 30 or hundreds of these kerabat dirajas. [pengsan…]

In fact, this colleague of mine even went to one of those trips before and got paid/tipped quite handsomely. She said her friend (the mistresses-girl) was a bit dumb not to have korek the royalty’s money kau kau.

If it were up to her(my colleague), she would have asked the royalty pay for the down payment of a house or something like that, instead of spending on Versaces, Guccis and Pradas. Better get a good deal, before the royalty dump her pussy for a new one.

Kenny Sia’s blog kena taruh

If you have the time (a lot of time), do drop by KEnny Sia’s blog and read through all the comments of his recent post about an accident he witnessed and tried to help. He took some pictures and crazy people from all backgrounds started flaming him and imposing their moral believes.

accident from kennysia.com

Whether taking the pictures of the accident is right or wrong is not the point of his entry. The points are him documenting the event and his feelings, and the awareness it generates.

This is the real Malaysian in full glory.

Pandai criticise others and deviating from the real/actual/original point of the matter at hand. What has dicussing about the ethics of taking photos has to do with the article?!

In a way, the same case goes for our parliament too… I guess.
Just look at how they debate over matters in YouTube or Google Video, regardless if they are BN or opposition.
The MPs really do represent the public. They represent our immaturity.

A good example would be the current sexist bocor incident. Another would be the Nazri shouting “you racist… x100000”. One more is the ‘you-tak-suka-Malaysia-you-balik-China’ incident. And of course, there are plenty more.

Sometimes (actually, it happens more often than sometimes), I’m guilty of this bad habit/attitude too. And now that I’ve seen it in action, I try not to be like this anymore.

And I hope those reading this article learn two thing from reading that particular article:

– Safe driving and seat belts (especially me).
– Don’t deviate from the point of the matter, and attack the person.

Bad Restaurant Service

not-so-small talk:
Came back from Thailand on Tuesday. 600+ photos but don’t know how to post-process them. And girls in Chiang Mai are really pretty.

It’s been such a long time since I wrote anything here. Blame my lack of inspiration and motivation. Simply said, I’m plain malas lah.

Now back to the topic.

A friend of mine was in Bangi for a week-long training. So I drove there to meet him up for a quick dinner before he heads to Malacca. We decided to have dinner in One Station (or is it Station One?) in Kajang.

The restaurant was almost empty. I ordered fish and chips, my friend Maryland chicken. When the food came, my friend got his chicken… and I got my chicken(?)… chicken chop. I told the waitress to return it as I thought it was probably meant for someone else. Then the chicken chop came back. The waitress gave me a stupid+guilty smile. WTF?!

I had to respect her for her guts. She admitted she had made a mistake while placing an order for my food. And she hope I’ll accept the chicken chop. Eh hello?! I ordered fish and chips, OK?!

If it were The Ship, I may accept it knowing that my food would still taste good. But it’s One Station. The only barely-acceptable food is fish and chips. I tried rejecting it but she kept pleading because she would have to pay [money] for the mistake.

The Ship Restaurant in Bukit Bintang

My friend was quite sympathetic and actually help her persuade me. WTF?! Eh, not my fault she made a mistake. I wanted to be nice, but today is just not the day. Some more I had to eat and PAY for HER mistake + service charge.

Talking about restaurant service charges gets me mad. Especially those lousy Hong Kong-style hybrid-food restaurants [Kim Gary, Wongkok Char Chan Teng, One Station…] that always have this 10% service charge. I hate/despise/abhor/detest that f*cked up 10%.

The service is slow. I have to take(or tick) the orders myself. The waiters don’t come to you even if you shout at them.
The only service they provide is bring the food and bring the receipt. Liddat also worth that 10% kah?! Oi, grandpa-style kopitiams and mamak stalls have better service lah.

I wouldn’t mind if the service is like Madam Kwan’s or The Ship, where you only had to lift you head to get any waiter’s attention. And before you can raise your hands halfway, he/she is already at your table… waiting for your order. And the best part, the food is only very slightly more expensive than Kim Gary/Wongkok but a zillion times better. Now that’s a 10% I’m only too happy to pay.

So, next time if you go to a restaurant with lousy service (or worse: no service) but charges the stupid 10%, complain like h*ll to the waiter/supervisor/drink runner/bartender/cashier/whoever working in that restaurant. Make it known that you refuse to pay the 10%. If enough people complains, they’ll eventually hear us and hopefully improve.

Remember, YOU are paying them with YOUR MONEY! Don’t be embarrased to demand for good service [and of course, good food]. Don’t pity them too much. It’s their job anyway.
(I’ve worked as a waiter before, no customers bertimbang rasa towards me also.)
